Rhea Dodd Vet Treks Africa Elephant

In September of 2020, we lost Dr. Rhea Dodd, a dear friend, a veterinarian of renowned accomplishment and a great supporter of Vet Treks. She is missed by many people who dearly loved her. The world lost a brilliant, funny, vibrant woman and a fantastic advocate for animals and the people who love them. Rhea was so instrumental in the good work we are doing with Vet Treks!

Rhea Dodd Africa GiraffeAfter I formed Vet Treks Foundation in 2014, I traveled extensively to make connections with local NGO’s in countries of interest, that were active in work that I wanted to support.

Specifically, the mission of Vet Treks is to support and expand local veterinary services, the ultimate goal being to create sustainable animal care in communities of need.

In 2016, Rhea invited me to travel with her to Kenya on a veterinary experiential trip that she had planned. The trip was amazing and magical in so many ways! It also facilitated relationship building between Vet Treks and several influential animal-centric Kenyan NGOs. These partnerships have flourished and resulted in many successful campaigns and benefited many communities and animals.

Rhea believed strongly in the sustainability and capacity-building mission of Vet Treks. Although she was unable to travel again with us after her diagnosis, she remained a trusted advisor and wonderful friend to Vet Treks, and to me personally, over the years.

To honor Rhea’s legacy, the grant-making arm of Vet Treks Foundation has made donations to several groups in Kenya that do meaningful work in the animal welfare community. These include the ANAW Guardians of Tsavo, TNR Trust and the KSPCA in Nairobi.

Please consider a donation to Vet Treks to help us in our continued support of animal welfare needs throughout Kenya.

With loving memories of Dr. Rhea Dodd,

Dr. Lisa McCarthy
