Dr. Raena Furtado
Dr. Raena Furtado earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University in 2015. Her long-standing passion for preventing and reducing infectious disease led her to seek opportunities to serve communities in need. She has been a dedicated advocate for One Health and an active volunteer in local World Rabies Day events, believing that a healthy animal population supports a healthy human population.
Dr. Furtado has practiced in both corporate and private small animal general practice. In 2022, she expanded her career by joining IDEXX, the leader in veterinary diagnostics, where she supports hospitals in their medical journey. Through this role, she met Dr. Lisa McCarthy and learned about Vet Treks’ mission to build veterinary capacity in underserved areas through education—a vision that deeply resonated with her. Their shared roots in El Paso, Texas, and veterinary education at Texas A&M further strengthened this connection.
In addition to her professional work, Dr. Furtado has been an active member of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), serving as the Denver Area Representative for several years and currently as Co-Chair of the CVMA Education Commission, where she helps bring continuing education opportunities to local veterinarians.
